We say A good effort from Chevrolet - the Orlando is a sturdy, if unremarkable, MPV offering.Performance Ignore the weak 1.8 petrol engine and choose a 2.0-litre diesel in 130 or 160bhp power guises. They’re torquey, fast and smooth. There’s a smooth autobox to go with it.Emissions 47mpg (44.4mpg on our test drive) on the diesel models, with CO2 at a useful 159g/km, which should endear it to company drivers and private buyers alike. Petrol offers lower emissions but, oddly, inferior fuel economy.Driving With 18 inch wheels handling is erratic, but much better with 16 inch wheels. The Orlando offers plenty of front end grip but there is some body roll there.Feel With 16 inch wheels, ride comfort is high; the Orlando can cope easily with poor road surfaces and cruises serenely with the diesel-auto powertrain.Space In its most usual configuration, with five seats in place, the Orlando offers 852-litres of space. With all three rows in use the boot has just 89 litres of room – so it’s seven seats OR luggage.Equipment Standard equipment on the Orlando includes electronic stability control, air conditioning, follow-me-home headlights, electric windows and mirrors, remote central locking, six airbags, three 12v power sockets, tinted windows and an adjustable steering wheel.Price The Orlando is priced from around £16,500. Add a grand for a diesel but be rewarded with a much better car and, possibly, better running costs and resale values.Quality The Orlando’s hard plastics are not the most pleasing to touch as they are not the higher quality soft-feel used by many manufacturers, but they will be durable and hard wearing.Safety The Orlando received a maximum five stars from Euro NCAP yet but Chevrolet makes big boasts about the structural integrity of the car and there’s loads of safety kit as standard – including six airbags and stability control.Pros Relatively cheap considering the high specification and seating for up to seven people; looks smart and well put together.Cons Not as practical or desirable as other new MPVs of the same size.Alternatives Ford Grand C-Max, Peugeot 5008, Volkswagen Touran, Vauxhall Zafira
