We say Brash and very American drop-top with an enormous 6.2-litre V8 engine and poor handling on UK roads.Performance Performance is brutal on the C6. Its 6.2-litre V8 packs enough punch – 437bhp of punch to be exact – to propel you from 0-62mph in 4.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 190mph. It’s phenomenal in a sprint and develops 425lb-ft of torque in the process.Emissions The C6 is predictably harsh on your wallet and the environment returning 21.2mpg and emitting 316g/km in CO2 emissions.Driving Corvette has always been known for building powerful cars that are electric in a straight line but the C6 marks a massive improvement in terms of handling. There’s lots more grip with this generation making it sharp and controlled around corners. Steering is a little light at high speeds.Feel To combat handling issues, Corvette has stiffened the suspension setup on the C6 and made a number of adjustments to the chassis to make it firmer. Whilst those tweaks have improved handling they have come at a cost, a bone shaking cost. The C6 is not a comfortable car to ride in and every bump and blemish in the road surface is felt.Space The C6 beats the likes of the Porsche Boxster and BMW Z4 in terms of interior and luggage space with a 295-litre boot and plenty of room for both passengers. There are few storage options in the cabin itself however there should be enough at the rear of the car as long as you don’t expect too much from the stylish American.Equipment The C6 ticks most boxes in terms of onboard equipment with leather upholstery, alloy wheels, climate control and an electrically lowered roof all coming as standard on the one trim level available.Price The Corvette is cheaper than its rivals from Porsche at £48,000.Quality There are always concerns in terms of quality when it comes to American models in the UK, fortunately the Corvette seems to cover most issues. The cabin and interior is well put together and the materials used throughout are solid. It’s fairly basic inside but that makes it easy to use and feel your way around.Safety There are front a side airbags for both occupants as well as traction and stability control programs.Pros The Corvette C6 is great fun to drive thanks to its mix of sharp handling and epic performance – as well as its drop-top setup. It’s big for a convertible too which means there’s enough storage space at the rear, too. It’s relatively cheap.Cons Over long distances the C6 can become uncomfortable because of its harsh ride. It’s also only available in left-hand drive.Alternatives Jaguar XKR, Porsche 911, Mercedes SL
