We say The E Class Coupe is the best looker of the bunch bu it's also versatile and can be dynamic and even aggressive.Performance The E Class Coupe comes with a wide range of engines comprising of three diesel and four petrol units. The biggest petrol engine is the E500 5.5-litre V8 unit worth 388bhp. It’s capable of a limited top speed of 155mph and clears 62mph in 5.0-seconds flat. The biggest diesel powertrain is found on the E350 and is a 3.0-litre CDI unit with a maximum output of 261bhp. That means powertrains designed to reduce CO2 emissions and improve fuel consumption figures which it does with the help of energy saving technologies like Start Stop. That means the E200 BlueEfficiency can return 38mpg and emits 164g/km in CO2 emissions.Driving The E Class Coupe is a replacement for the old CLK and the latest model is longer and wider than its predecessor. That means there’s far more control and grip. There’s also an Agility Control suspension kit.Unfortunately that set up makes the drive and handling of the E Class dull and a little too comfortable.Feel While the E Class Coupe remains agile, poised and comfortable, steering and feedback is a little woolly. That makes it a little conservative to drive. On the flip side, it’s refined and comfortable and there is a dynamic handling package to alleviate some of the comfort.Space As mentioned, the E Class Coupe is bigger than the model it replaces – the CLK – and that means it’s altogether more comfortable and spacious. There’s a relatively big boot for a coupe worth 450-litres. Leg and headroom is at a premium for passengers travelling in the rear but those in the front are well catered for with a well laid out, comfortable cabin.Equipment There are two standard trim levels across the whole E Class model line-up and entry-level SE models come with 17-inch alloys, a parking system and climate control. Further up the range is the Sport specification which adds 18-inch alloys, AMG styling touches and a sports suspension.Price Pricing for the E Class Coupe starts from a little over £31,000 and rises to £52,915 for high-end models with all the toys.Quality The E Class is an executive car and the materials, quality of finish and layout are all excellent on the Coupe. You’ll be hard pushed to find anything wrong with the German coupe in terms of interior, technology and engine line-up.Safety There are nine airbags throughout the E Class Coupe as well as pretension seatbelts and a wide range of safety systems and technologies, too. They include fatigue sensor systems, stability control and ABS brakes.Pros The E Class Coupe is a brilliant looking car with a unique profile and roofline. It also comes with an extensive range of engines and more safety technology than the majority of its rivals.Cons It’s a bit middle of the road. It’s a big coupe rather than a small and nippy one. That detracts from its drive which is conservative and a little dull, too.Alternatives Audi A5 Coupe, BMW 3 Series Coupe
