We say The Impian has some strong points – it’s cheap and offers lots of kit, but it's still a bit of a duffer.Performance The Impian’s sole 102bhp 1.6-litre doesn't cruise too well and doesn't like being pushed, but returns a good economy. The autobox kills performance – avoid it.Emissions 42mpg and 161g/km are possible with the Impian. The autobox increases consumption and emissions to a risible 31mpg and 214g/km.Driving The Impian provides a decent drive thanks to Lotus suspension and is generally composed on the road.Feel The Impian’s engine probably blows up long before the redline but will cruise, slowly, in a relatively serene manner.Space The Proton does offer decent space for five and a decent boot at 410 litres.Equipment Aircon, electric windows, CD player and alloys are standard. GSX trim adds leather and six-CD changer.Price The Impian is cheap to buy, and will be even cheaper at resale. Could be some cracking low-mileage deals around however.Quality The Impian’s interior looks OK, if obviously basic and some way off the sector’s average.
