We say Cheap and cheerful little 4x4 that's OK on the road and off, but very basic.Performance 1.3-litre engine delivers 78bhp and 76lb-ft of torque, now at lower revs. It’s slow, taking more than 16 seconds to get to 60mph. Enough performance about town but it struggles on open roads where it needs to be worked hard.Emissions Emissions are poor on the Jimny at 179g/km and it only returns 37mpg on a combined cycle. That’s poor and weakens any argument suggesting you buy one.Driving The Jimny is dull to drive and comes with vague steering that induces a lot of guess work. It also rolls around corners like it’s a massive car, only it’s not. All in all its not very good to drive.Feel Very noisy at speed because its engines need to be hammered and the ride is incredibly bouncy and sloshy. It takes forever for it to calm down after hitting bumps and that can become tiresome very quickly.Space Up front, there’s plenty of room for both the driver and the lucky passenger however those in the front will feel cramped with legroom and shoulder room at a premium. At the back, the boot is very small but fortunately the rear seats fold down and free up more load space.Equipment Central locking, CD player, alloys and electric windows as standard.Price Running costs are poor with the Jimny but its list price is OK at less than £10,000 for entry-level models and plenty of discounts probably available. Residuals won't be too good though.Quality All Suzukis are tough and durable and the Jimny certainly is. That’s probably as much down to solid, boring plastics that litter the interior, than anything else. It’s basic and not a particularly nice place to be.Safety Two airbags and ABS are your lot here. It’s light on equipment.Pros The Suzuki Jimny is very cheap to buy and incredibly robust. It’s ok off-road as well as incredibly distinct.Cons The Jimny is a letdown in terms of drive and interior quality. Its list price becomes obvious when you get behind the wheel where you’re met with lots of cheap plastics and scratchy surfaces. There’s a limited engine range of one as well.Alternatives Daihatsu Terios, Jeep Wrangler
