The Vauxhall Astra is a car for those looking for a premium-feel and high specification family car but with affordable running costs. Downsizers from the traditional executive cars are turning their attention to the good-looking Astra and to meet this demand, Vauxhall dreamed up this; new Astra TechLine. The Techline is a trim level originally designed for business, but its generous level of equipment and low price means it is equally popular with private drivers looking to enjoy the extra features available on the Techline trim. The Vauxhall Astra Tech Line comes with an extensive equipment list as standard including a satellite navigation system accessible via a seven-inch touch screen. DAB digital radio is also being introduced across the UK as standard to replace the old AM/FM radio. The Techline also comes with Bluetooth, which can connect a car's entertainment system to a smart phone wirelessly. Other equipment includes USB connectivity, cruise control, air conditioning, alloy wheels and chrome effect on the side windows. Inside the Vauxhall Astra Techline While Vauxhall is happy to reel off the impressive list of equipment this is somewhat let down by the drab interior. It feels solid and well-built; the steering wheel is satisfyingly chunky and the plastics on the dash are of sufficiently high quality. The instrument panels are clear and easy to read, even if the incredible amount of buttons and dials can be a little daunting. The main criticism however, is the dull grey covering most of the surfaces and the practical but uninspiring design inside. Luckily, the Astra's superb drive and excellent engine options helps to make up for lack of excitement in the cabin. On the road Under the bonnet of the Tech Line sits a 1.4-litre petrol engine which emits just 129g/km of CO2 and delivers fuel economy of 51.4 miles per gallon. For private buyers, low emissions mean the diesel model falls into Band D of UK road tax, with annual payments of zero for the first year and just £100 thereafter. On the road the Vauxhall Astra Techline drives and handles like any other Astra - and that can only be a good thing. Steering is responsive, handling is tight and the car feels composed and assured on the road. If it wasn't for the outstanding Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf the Astra would be a comfortable class-leader. The Vauxhall Astra Techline is a small family car with an executive level of equipment. Taking advantage of the limited time offer means it is also the best value-for-money hatchback on the market today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7x2SEdfA0I
