We say Is it a hatch, estate, MPV and executive? None really. And it's not very good either. There is plenty of space for passengers and it's different - but not good enough.Performance A mismatched set of engine choices will leave the Signum underpowered. The diesel 3.0-litre V6 is the best choice with a 0-60ph sprint time of 9.5 seconds but there’s a big gap between that and other powertrains in the line-up.Emissions If you’re concerned with emissions and fuel economy figures you’ll plump for the mid-level diesels but the trade off against power makes a weak case for their selection. The 3.0-litre V6 is still the best choice, returning around 40mpg on a combines cycle and 189g/km in CO2 emissions.Driving A good cruiser but the Signum doesn't drive with any confidence. It’s big and heavy so rolls around corners. That’s not helped by a soft suspension setup which means it’s only really any good as a motorway cruiser.Feel Nicely refined but the struggling engines ruin things a bit. It absorbs most bumps and lumps in the road but its suspension is overly soft meaning there’s a lot of wallow and wash to the drive.Space There’s lots of space in the Signum for passengers in the front and rear which makes it an ideal motorway cruiser. Its boot is slightly disappointing though at just 365-litres however the rear row of seats can fold flat to bolster load capacity.Equipment 18-inch alloy wheels, sat-nav with colour screen, air-con, front foglights and cruise control are standard at entry-level.Price Priced well, and running costs should be decent. Residuals will be appalling though, something to consider bearing in mind list prices range from around £18,000 to almost £29,000.Quality Looks and feels good inside with lots of soft-touch and solid surfaces throughout the interior. There should be few problems when it comes to reliability as well.Safety Six airbags, plus curtain bags than run the length of the car. Also ABS and traction control.Pros Good cruiser with plenty of space for passengers.Cons The Signum is a poor car in all. There’s a sporadic engine range with large gaps between underpowered engines and a large 3.0-litre unit. Its drive and handling is also poor and it’s boot space disappointing.Alternatives Volvo V70, Audi A4 Avant, Mercedes C-Class Estate, Saab 9-3 Sportwagon, BMW 5 Series Touring,
