In the UK, Fiat’s range is dominated by the 500 line-up – these models being available as a small city car, convertible, crossover and MPV.
But the Italian firm’s line-up has plenty more to offer – not least with the Tipo. This stylish model has been part of the range since 2016, and is available as either a five-door hatchback, a saloon or an estate.
Here we’re focusing on the more popular hatchback variant, and this is what you need to know about it…
What engines are available?
Three engines are available with the Tipo, with the range kickstarting with a naturally aspirated 94bhp 1.4-litre petrol. With its modest power output, it’s really best-suited to town driving, as its 0-60mph isn’t the quickest – taking 12.2 seconds. In terms of fuel economy, it can return a claimed 40.9mpg, with CO2 emissions of 160g/km.
The more powerful 118bhp turbocharged 1.4-litre is a better option, though, and not significantly more expensive. It cuts the 0-60mph time down to 9.7 seconds, and returns the same 40.9mpg as the other petrol unit. CO2 emissions rise slightly to 162g/km.
A diesel engine is also available – a 118bhp 1.6-litre unit. This is by the far the most efficient of the lot – returning up to 56.5mpg, with CO2 emissions of 131g/km. As for performance, it can accelerate from 0-60mph in 9.9 seconds.
What trim levels are offered?
With six levels to choose from, there is no shortage of options on the Tipo. Equipment highlights and pricing are as follows.

What about personalisation?
Unlike Fiat’s own 500, personalisation isn’t quite as extensive on the Tipo. That said, there are still some great colour options available – including Elba Blue, Passion Red and Tuscany Green. As for more conventional options, it’s worth ticking the boxes for heated seats (£200) and the Safety Pack Plus, this adding adaptive cruise control for just £250.
If you choose a top-spec Sport model, for £900 you can choose a two-tone colour scheme, which adds additional flair to the model, though it’s a bit pricey.
