Electric cars are becoming more prevalent on the car market, with some flagship models leading the way to allow for other mainstream models. One such EV is the Jaguar I-Pace, and the British SUV has recently been voted the 2019 European Car of the Year.

The sleek battery-powered SUV is Jaguar’s first foray into the electric vehicle world and shows that it is more than ready to tackle the future of motoring.

We take a brief look at the model and see what it can offer you…

What powertrains are available?

Well, just the one with the I-Pace, so every customer can experience the same performance no matter which version they go for. The 90kWh battery pack that is mounted in the chassis is teamed with two motors that together develops 394bhp and 696Nm of torque – allowing the I-Pace to get from 0-60mph in just 4.5 seconds.

The top speed mat only be 124mph, but the instant torque offered by the electric motors – with one mounted on each axle for all-wheel drive – makes the I-Pace feel seriously quick. There is also only one gear, so there’s no delay between gearshifts and a smooth power output. The battery pack allows for 292 miles of range, which is also fast charge capable.

What do I get for my money?

Following the government’s plug-in car grant discount, the I-Pace starts from £60,995, and with that you get a fair amount of kit. The entry level S model comes with automatic LED headlights and LED taillights, automatic wipers, a tailgate spoiler, 18-inch alloy wheels, two-zone climate control, leather sports seats and heated steering wheel, JaguarDrive Control, dual-touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument display, satellite navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot, smartphone connectivity, Bluetooth, a Meridian sound system and multiple safety assists. That’s a lot of equipment for an entry-level car.

The standard fit safety options include emergency braking, cruise control with speed limiter, driver condition monitor, traffic sign recognition and adaptive speed limiter, lane keep assist, a rear camera and the park pack, which adds a 360-degree parking aid, rear traffic monitor and park assist.

Higher spec models add larger alloy wheels, signature daytime running lights, more premium materials and additional safety systems, such as adaptive cruise control, high-speed emergency braking and blind spot assist.
