2019 World Car of the Year winners revealed

We list the top dogs at this year's World Car of the Year awards...

It’s that time of the year again — and no, we don’t mean the one where we overstuff ourselves with chocolate eggs. Rather, it’s time for the World Car of the Year awards.

It’s when manufacturers latest machinery is scrutinised against one another, with the best of the best commended for their achievements in technology, design and overall excellence. Who took what this year though?

It’s quite the achievement to win one category in these awards, so scooping two categories as well as the overall win is quite the achievement.

As Jaguar’s first all-electric model, The I-Pace is game-changing and has proven to be a genuine rival to Tesla, with its lengthy real-world range, gorgeous looks and stunning interior.

World Urban Car — Suzuki Jimny

Back for 2019 is the loveable Suzuki Jimny — the dink 4x4 charmer that oozes as much charm as it does genuine off-road ability. It’s taken the World Urban Car award for 2019, and rightfully so. Not only is it adorable, but is seriously good fun to drive too — especially so around town. Spec it in Kinetic Yellow and it’ll be sure to turn heads too.

World Luxury Car — Audi A7

Audi won this category last year with its state-of-the-art A8, and the German manufacturer has gone on again to win with its smaller, more stylish A7.

The A7’s terrific interior, fantastic ride quality and sleek looks won over the jurors - beating Audi’s fellow Q8 and the BMW 8 Series, and offering all the luxury you could ever ask for.

World Performance Car — McLaren 720S

McLaren can’t seem so do any wrong at the moment, and the 720S is yet another example of the astonishing products it produces. Taking the crown for this year’s World Performance Car, it continues to be one of the leading machines in its segment — with blistering performance, spaceship-like looks and prestige to boot. Better yet, it’s now available in ‘Spider’ form for some of the fastest top-down motoring around.

World Green Car — I-Pace

Much like London buses, the prizes seem to come at all once for Jaguar’s I-Pace — also taking the World Green Car award. It’s easy to see why — it’s highly-sophisticated electric powertrain results in impressive zero-emissions performance, while also delivering an impressive 292 miles of range between charges.

World Car Design of the Year — Jaguar I-Pace

Under the leadership of Ian Callum, Jaguar’s head of design, the firm has produced some absolutely beautiful cars — such as the F-Pace, F-Type and now this, the new I-Pace.

In fact, this is the third consecutive Design of the Year win for the team at Jaguar Land Rover, with the F-Pace scooping the award in 2017 and the Range Rover Velar winning the category last year.
