Aston Martin unveils flagship DBS Superleggera

British luxury car manufacturer revives two icons in one for the Vanquish S’ replacement.

Aston Martin has revealed a brand-new flagship model — the DBS Superleggera.

Labelled as a ‘Super GT’ by the British firm, the DBS Superleggera will be based on the DB11 and is noticeably similar in design.

This hyped-up machine revives both the DBS and Superleggera nameplate – the latter translating as ‘super light’, as it looks to take on key cars such as the Ferrari 812 Superfast. The name DBS was last used in 2012, although Superleggera has not been used since 1967.

The firms’ 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 has been developed to produce a monstrous 716bhp and 900Nm which will make it the firm’s second most powerful production car to date – only just behind that of the 760bhp One-77 hypercar. The engine’s paired to a new ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.

With a 0-60mph time of just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of over 211mph, it puts the model into a new class for the brand which it hasn’t been in for several years.

Other than the vast number of changes underneath the skin, a deep honeycomb grille gives it a menacing look, while it’s also built using carbon fibre panels. Two different alloy designs also feature, as well as a sharper rear end with ‘Aston Martin’ — much like how Range Rovers are badged.

The Vanquish was always seen as one of the more luxurious models in Aston’s range, and the DBS Superleggera is no different. Standard equipment includes a 360-degree camera, park assist as well as Bluetooth and keyless entry. A leather and Alcantara interior is also offered as standard.

Dr Andy Palmer, president and CEO of Aston Martin, said: “DBS Superleggera not only marks the return of a great Aston Martin name, but signals our return to the very pinnacle of the Super GT sector.

“Immaculately styled, obsessively engineered and outrageously potent, the new DBS Superleggera is every inch the Aston Martin flagship”.

The DBS Superleggera is priced from £225,000, while first deliveries are expected in the third quarter of 2018.
