Citroen announces pricing for new flagship C5X

New model sees Citroen return to large car segment after lengthy hiatus

Citroen has announced that its new flagship C5X is now on sale, with prices starting from £26,490.

The new model, which occupies a strange place in the market as it’s a blend of saloon, crossover and estate bodystyles, sees Citroen return to the large car segment after a seven-year absence.

Citroen says the C5X incorporates design elements from past Citroens like the iconic DS and CX, while promising ‘unrivalled’ comfort thanks to its newly developed seats and clever suspension.

It’s also more spacious than a typical saloon, with more legroom and a large 545-litre boot, increasing to 1,640 litres once the rear seats are folded.

At launch, there is the choice of two turbocharged petrol engines – a 128bhp 1.2-litre and a 178bhp 1.6-litre – along with a plug-in hybrid that combines the latter engine with an electric motor for a combined 222bhp. Its 12.4kWh battery pack also unlocks a claimed electric range of 34 miles, while CO2 emissions of 30g/km put it in an attractive company car tax bracket. All powertrains come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, too.

The Sense Plus model opens the range, with prices starting from £26,490. Standard kit is generous, including 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a reversing camera and a 10-inch touchscreen with 3D satellite navigation.

Mid-range Shine models are priced from £27,990, with extra kit including a larger 12-inch touchscreen, a head-up display, LED interior lighting and a heated steering wheel. At the top of the range, the Shine Plus model costs from £29,980, and brings black leather upholstery, electric and heated front seats, an electric boot and 360-degree camera system.

The new Citroen C5X is now available to order, with first deliveries expected in late spring.
