Cupra teases new concept set to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show

The all-electric concept is set to offer a glimpse at where the Cupra brand is heading.

Spanish performance brand Cupra has revealed a teaser of its new all-electric concept car.

The currently-unnamed model will be Cupra’s first all-electric vehicle seen, and shows the firm’s ambitions when it comes to electrification.

The teaser image reveal little, but shows a vehicle with the proportions and ride height of an SUV. The concept also shows a full-length light bar headed up by the central Cupra logo. It also features a sloping roofline to give the model ‘coupe-like’ styling – similar to that of the BMW X4

It’s said to offer “the silhouette of a four-door crossover with the presence of an SUV and the sleekness of a sports coupe.”

Cupra will be unveiling this new concept at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show, with the concept likely to strongly resemble a production car.

Since Cupra branched off from Seat last year, the only model currently on the road is the Ateca – a model that’s entirely based on the Seat car, with the engine from the Volkswagen Golf R.

The second model in the line-up will be the Formentor, which was unveiled in concept form February. This car is a plug-in hybrid, which could act as a step towards the brand’s first all-electric car.

While all of Cupra’s standalone products so far have been crossovers or SUVs, the manufacturer is set to continue tuning existing Seat models – such as the Leon hatchback. Performance petrol engines are likely to be sold alongside electrified options.
