Fiat has announced the introduction of its new 500X Dolcevita, which brings an electric soft-top roof to the stylish crossover.
While not a full convertible like its closest rival the Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet, the 500X Dolcevita features a canvas roof that electrically retracts in just 15 seconds. It can also be raised at speeds of up to 62mph – far higher than that of a conventional drop-top.
The canvas roof is available in black, grey or red to match the 10 regular body colours on offer. Fiat promises ‘good visibility and an open-air experience, even for passengers in the back’. Due to the roof not fully retracting, it also doesn’t impact on boot space, which remains the same as the standard 500X.
The Dolcevita is available with the same range of trim levels as the regular crossover, with the exception of the entry-level Pop trim. The line-up starts with the ‘Connect’, which comes as standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights and a seven-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
‘Cross’ packs more rugged-looking styling, along with 19-inch alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning and parking sensors. At the top of the range is the Sport, which, as its name suggests, has a sportier look with 19-inch alloy wheels, side skirts, rear spoiler and sports seats.
The engine choice also remains the same as the standard 500X, with a 118bhp 1.0-litre petrol available alongside a 148bhp 1.3-litre petrol.
Prices for the 500X Dolcevita start from £23,975 – roughly £3,000 more than the regular car – and rise to £29,775 for the Sport trim. It’s available to order now, with first deliveries expected later in the year.
