Hyundai has unveiled a new electric SUV concept car that previews an upcoming EV in the brand’s range.
Simply known as the ‘Seven’, the striking concept is described as ‘category bending’, and follows on from the 45 Concept (which became the IONIQ 5) and the Prophecy, which will morph into the battery-powered IONIQ 5 saloon.
The Seven is based on the Hyundai Group’s dedicated E-GMP electric car platform, and showcases the flexibility and spaciousness that these underpinnings can provide. Offering a long wheelbase and flat floor, the South Korean firm says it ‘enables a completely new class of vehicle’.
It features an especially striking design, with a wide grille and pixel-LED lights at the front and rear making it look particularly modern. The design also incorporates special air flaps that help to improve the model’s aerodynamics, while the rear-opening doors offer an especially luxurious feel.
Inside, Hyundai has prioritised spaciousness, with its vast 3.2m-long wheelbase freeing up a huge amount of room. The interior also offers three rows of seats, with the concept model featuring lounge-like chairs that can swivel around like those you might find in an upmarket lounge. That’s emphasised by on-board features like bult-in mini fridges and a shoe shiner.
Hyundai has also prioritised sustainability and health of occupants, with various eco-friendly elements and an interior that is able to sterilise itself. Even the paint is made from bio products, while the cabin is made up of materials like bamboo, copper and resin. Specially treated fabrics are also said to ‘ensure that it remains clean at all times’.
Full technical details haven’t been announced, but Hyundai is targeting a range of ‘over 300 miles’, while being able to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in just 20 minutes thanks to impressive 350kW rapid charging capability.
Expect a production version of the Seven in 2023.
