Kia EV9 confirmed for production

Fully electric SUV features some of the brand’s latest technology

Kia’s striking EV9 electric SUV has been confirmed for production in Europe.

Previously revealed as the Concept EV9, the production-ready model will arrive in 2023 and ‘build on the success that the acclaimed EV6 crossover has achieved since its launch last year’, according to Kia.

Underpinned by Kia’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the EV9 incorporates some of the firm’s latest technology, such as a 27-inch widescreen display housed in the middle of the dashboard.

The exterior features an up-to-date interpretation of Kia’s famous ‘Tiger Nose’ styling, while machined 22-inch alloy wheels add some extra presence to the car. The whole cabin is brightened up through the fitment of a panoramic ‘sky’ roof which gives passengers a full view of the sky. A front grille houses a ‘star cloud’ pattern which is completely hidden behind the front panel of the EV9 when not in use. When the car is started, the pattern appears through the panel.

There are striking daytime running lamps that have been inspired by a map of the stars and they play a special ‘welcome light’ for the driver when activated, too.

The EV9 uses retractable roof rails which close inward when not in use, boosting the car’s aerodynamic efficiency. This does mean that users have the option to mount accessories to the roof should they want to, too. Conventional door mirrors are replaced in favour of a camera monitoring system, helping to increase visibility while lowering drag.
