Lagonda confirms production of zero-emissions luxury SUV

The car will be an evolution of the Lagonda Vision Concept shown at this year’s Geneva Motor Show and the first model from the Aston Martin subsidiary to go on sale.

Aston Martin subsidiary brand Lagonda has confirmed it will produce a zero-emissions luxury SUV, and will unveil the model in 2021.

The basis for its design in the Lagonda Vision Concept shown at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, and it’ll feature an advanced battery powertrain.

Lagonda was originally established in 1906 and has been under the ownership of Aston Martin since 1947. It has been dormant for multiple periods of its existence, with its most recent model being the Taraf, of which 200 examples were produced between 2014 and 2017.

Andy Palmer, president and CEO of Aston Martin, commented: “In reviving one of the most iconic names in motoring, we have created a unique opportunity - one that allows us to cast aside an inherited 20th century approach and instead design cars around 21st century demands and desires.

“The Lagonda SUV is the first of its kind: a spacious, high-performance 4x4 that successfully reconciles a love of technology, luxury and style.”

Marek Reichman, executive vice president and chief creative officer of Aston Martin, added: “The Lagonda SUV will retain the boldness of the Vision Concept. Lagonda is a luxury brand, but it is also one rooted in technology.

“It will be like no other SUV to drive, so its looks have to reflect that new reality and to serve as pathfinder to a future in which the most desirable and prestigious automobiles still have a place.”
