Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro announced before LA debut

The special edition model will rival for Porsche 911 GT3 RS and is inspired by Mercedes-AMG race cars.

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the limited edition AMG GT R Pro, which will be fully unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show at the end of November.

The German brand said that the special version of its top-end sports car will draw inspiration from the GT3 and GT4 racing cars that are based on the GT.

No major details have been revealed about the Pro yet, but Mercedes-AMG has released an image of the car covered in heavy camouflage –that can’t hide the obvious aerodynamic upgrades to the front end however, with further upgrades likely on the body.

As it draws from the brand’s motorsport efforts, the GT R Pro is expected to be lighter and faster than the GT R – with more power being developed from its turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine.

Mercedes-AMG will be producing a limited number of these models, with the manufacturer setting its sights on the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the Ferrari 488 Pista, which also draw from motorsport in their design and performance.

The German manufacturer will also be revealing updates to the rest of the AMG GT line-up to move in line-up with the recently-released GT 4-door Coupe, as well as displaying the new GLE and Sprinter – which is being built completely in the United States.
