Mercedes-AMG reveals updated C 63 range

The high-performance model range has been revamped with a new look, transmission and promise of better driving dynamics.

Mercedes-AMG has revealed the updated C 63 performance range, with all four model variants given a refresh.

Revealed at the New York International Auto Show, all C 63 examples will be fitted with an improved interior design and the new AMG Dynamics system for potential improvements in any driving conditions.

Under the bonnet are two power options provided from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine – 469bhp for the standard C 63 and 503bhp for the top-spec C 63 S models. In coupe form, the C 63 S can get from 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds and go on to a top speed of 180mph.

All models come with a nine-speed automatic Speedshift transmission, which throttle blips used between each gear to keep the revs at an optimum level.

To help improve the overall dynamics of the car, Mercedes-AMG has “elaborately retuned” the Ride Control suspension and adaptive damping system, adaptive engine mounts and standard limited-slip differential – with the AMG Dynamics system helping drivers to choose between six driving modes (Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race and Individual) which adapt the responsiveness and sharpness of the car.

Exterior changes include a new chrome grille, a redesigned front bumper with shaped inlets, new exhaust exits and an altered rear diffuser.

Tobias Moers, chief executive officer of Mercedes-AMG, said: “The AMG C-Class is our best-selling model series and therefore a key cornerstone of our company’s success of recent years. We have therefore increasingly expanded our C-Class offer: customers can now choose between 12 models from the C-Class family.

“As part of the latest facelift, we have upgraded all variants of the model series even more substantially. This relates to the 43-series models and especially, of course, to the AMG C 63. The perfected driving dynamics and expressive design underscore the powerful, muscular character of the rear-wheel drive icon.”

Due to the increase in equipment, prices have gone up with the C 63 Saloon starting from £64,000, while the S version starts from £73,000.
