New 2024 BMW 2 Series and M2: Updated Interiors, Enhanced Tech, and More Power

BMW is gearing up for an exciting summer with the announcement of a mid-life update for its 2 Series two-door coupe, following the recent updates to the 3 Series and 4 Series. The refreshed 2024 BMW 2 Series, set to arrive in August, brings significant enhancements to the interior and technology, ensuring it remains a competitive option in the UK market.

New Features and Pricing for the 2024 BMW 2 Series

The updated BMW 2 Series maintains its existing powertrain lineup, starting with the four-cylinder 220i and 230i models, both equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine producing 181bhp and 241bhp respectively. The top-tier M240i continues with its powerful twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine, delivering an impressive 369bhp. While the 220i and 230i are rear-wheel drive, the M240i features BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system. All models come with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

One of the most notable changes is the revamped interior. The 2024 2 Series now features a new dashboard design with a redesigned centre section, sitting beneath a curved digital display. This sleek setup combines a 12.3-inch driver’s display with a 14.9-inch touchscreen, all powered by BMW’s latest operating system. This system integrates various car controls, providing a seamless and modern user experience. Additionally, a new steering wheel design and an optional large head-up display add to the refreshed cabin’s appeal.

The interior updates also include new colour and trim options. A new red synthetic leather joins the existing black and cognac finishes, along with new open-pore timber and carbon fibre trim elements on the dashboard and doors. Externally, while the design remains largely unchanged, new colour and wheel options are available, along with a 'pearlescent chrome' finish for the kidney grilles on models not equipped with the Black Shadowline Package.

Pricing for the updated 2 Series starts at £36,865 for the 220i, £40,320 for the 230i, and £46,045 for the M240i. Customers can further personalize their vehicles with various additional option packages.

BMW M2: More Power and Customisation

Alongside the 2 Series updates, BMW has also announced significant enhancements for the high-performance M2. Priced from £63,360, the new BMW M2 is also set to arrive in August, featuring a series of updates that promise to elevate its already impressive performance.

The M2’s ‘S58’ straight-six engine now produces 473bhp, up from 454bhp, with torque remaining at 600Nm for the automatic and 550Nm for the manual transmission. This power boost allows the M2 to reach 62mph in just 4.0 seconds (4.2 seconds with the manual), thanks to revised engine mapping that enhances mid-range response. As before, the M2 sends power exclusively to the rear wheels, managed by BMW’s active locking rear differential.

The M2’s interior mirrors the updates of the 2 Series, with the new dashboard design and a floating curved display that incorporates both a 12.3-inch driver’s screen and a 14.9-inch touchscreen. These screens feature graphics unique to BMW M models, powered by the latest OS 8.5 operating system. A new flat-bottomed steering wheel with a red marker at the 12 o’clock position and the option of carbon fibre-backed bucket seats enhance the sporty feel of the cabin.

For those looking for more exterior personalisation, the new M2 offers a much wider range of colour and wheel choices, including 12 exterior colours like Sao Paolo Yellow and several BMW Exclusive colours such as Java Green and Voodoo Blue. This expanded palette is a first for the M2, aiming to cater to a wider range of customer preferences.

BMW’s refreshed 2024 2 Series and M2 models bring significant updates to the table, from enhanced interiors and advanced technology to increased power and customization options. With the first deliveries expected in August, UK customers can now place their orders and look forward to experiencing these refined and powerful coupes.
