New Kia Ceed GT priced to rival the Volkswagen Golf

The GT is currently the most powerful version of the South Korean hatchback, while the GT-Line takes designs cues from the performance model.

After both versions of the model were revealed at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, Kia has announced full pricing and specification for the Ceed GT and GT-Line.

Based on the fourth generation of the South Korean hatchback, both the GT and GT-Line add performance to the Ceed range – the GT being the range-topping effort.

The Ceed GT starts from £25,535 and is fitted with a four-cylinder, 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine that develops 201bhp and 265Nm of torque – helping the model get from 0-60mph in 7.2 seconds. Its top speed is 143mph and the engine is paired to a six-speed manual transmission.

Kia has developed the Ceed GT specifically for European roads and has fine-tuned suspension that is meant to provide a more engaging drive. Torque vectoring by braking is also fitted to improve cornering – with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres also included to help with traction.

To make it appear sportier than the standard model, the GT comes with larger air intakes at the front and darker chrome detailing around the car – as well as 18-inch alloy wheels and a lower ride height.

That continues into the cabin, as dark, soft-touch materials are used throughout. The sports seats are trimmed in black leather and faux suede, while the black roof lining helps cocoon the driver. The flat-bottomed steering wheel is trimmed in leather.

An eight-inch floating infotainment touchscreen – with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality – and air conditioning controls dominate the central console, while the 395-litre boot comes with a lower lip than before.

Starting from £21,535, the GT-Line comes with many of the same design cues as the GT – with customers able to choose between 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels. The GT-Line comes with leather and cloth seats, while the GT-Line S version comes with leather and faux suede sports seats.

Prospective drivers are also able to choose between three power options – with a 1.0-litre petrol developing 118bhp, the 138bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol and a 134bhp 1.6-litre diesel offering available.
