A new version of the famous Subaru Outback has been revealed, bringing increased safety, driving and comfort features.
The Outback - which was first launched in 1995 - sits on Subaru’s new Global Platform, which allows it to be far more spacious than before. In fact, Subaru is calling this sixth-generation Outback the ‘roomiest’ version ever built.
It boasts a next-generation version of the firm’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology and can be fitted with up to 11 safety functions including advanced adaptive cruise control, emergency lane keep assist and lane departure prevention - to name but a few.
It also incorporates a driver monitoring system that will alert the driver if it detects that they’re becoming fatigued or distracted.
Underneath the bonnet sits a 2.5-litre four-cylinder ‘Boxer’ engine, linked to permanent all-wheel-drive and a CVT automatic transmission. Refinements to the chassis and suspension should help to deliver better ride comfort, too, while new sound-insulated glass will ensure that the cabin remains as hushed as possible.
Body roll has been reduced by 50 per cent over the old Outback thanks to tweaks made to the body and chassis, too.
The cabin has swelled inside, with more shoulder and hip room offered to those sitting in both the front and the back of the car. The boot, too, has been widened by almost 30mm, while total capacity has been increased by 10 litres to 522 litres. This can be extended by folding the rear seats down, too.
