Polestar’s first production vehicle to cost £111,000

The new hybrid coupe has 591bhp and 1,000Nm of torque as its disposal, more than 7,000 people have registered their interest.

Polestar has announced that its first production vehicle, the 1, has a starting price of $155,000 – approximately £111,000.

The plug-in hybrid coupe is the Volvo performance spin-off brand’s first attempt on its own and combines a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor to create 591bhp and 1,000Nm of torque.

That electric half of the setup allows for 93 miles of no emission driving and cleaner driving overall as it supplements the petrol engine.

As the Polestar 1 will also be available on subscription service, the brand is yet to announce what the pricing for those will be.

More than 7,000 people have contacted Polestar about their interest in the new model, which will be produced from the end of 2018.

Thomas Ingenlath, chief executive officer of Polestar, said: “We have seen a strong initial response from our first customers.

“This gives us confidence that our brand has a bright future. In 2019 already we will launch our next car, the Polestar 2 – a mid-sized fully-electric car which is well developed in its engineering phase.

“We will follow that up with the Polestar 3, a stunning electric SUV with a beautiful aerodynamic silhouette that is already advanced in its design phase.”
