Skoda has announced a number of changes across its line-up as part of model year updates, with powertrain changes and additional kit being available on selected cars.
The firm’s most powerful diesel engine – the 187bhp 2.0-litre TDI – is seeing its power increase to 197bhp, while Skoda is promising significant cuts to nitrogen oxide emissions thanks to AdBlue and a new exhaust gas system. You’ll find this engine on both the flagship Superb models, as well as the Kodiaq.
Elsewhere on the Superb, Skoda’s most powerful production engine – a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol – is seeing its power increase from 268bhp to 276bhp. All Superb variants are also now able to be fitted with Skoda’s ‘Area View’ 360-degree camera system, as it was previously just the plug-in hybrid iV variant that came with this. This technology is also available on the Kodiaq and smaller Karoq.
Speaking of the seven-seat Kodiaq SUV, Skoda is introducing predictive cruise control, which is essentially an adaptive cruise system that can autonomously slow the car for corners and speed limit changes, too. Ventilated sports seats are also now optional on high-spec SportLine and vRS variants as well.
The smaller Karoq now comes with a new 113bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine – replacing the 1.6-litre TDI unit available previously with the same output.
The mechanically-similar Scala hatchback and Kamiq crossover receive a revised keyless entry system, with the transmitter signal from the key deactivating in less time than before to reduce the likelihood of keyless car theft. Shortly a new more rugged-looking ‘ScoutLine’ variant of the Kamiq will also be available.
Last but not least, Skoda’s most affordable model – the Fabia supermini – will soon be available with a DSG automatic gearbox on the 94bhp turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol unit, while a new set of black 17-inch alloy wheels can be picked too.
As part of this update, Skoda is also moving its range over to the new Euro 6d emissions standards, which all manufacturers must meet with their new cars.
