Skoda named most reliable car brand in JD Power survey

The 2016 JD Power Survey has revealed the most dependable cars on sale based on the feedback of thousands of motorists, and its Skoda the brand that comes out on top.

Skoda has come top of the 2016 JD Power UK Vehicle Dependability Study, which determines the most dependable car brands in the UK.

Based on feedback from over 13,000 owners of cars owned for 12 to 36 months, the JD Power study asked the car owners what problems they experienced with their vehicle in the past 12 months. The problems covered different categories, and the most commonly mentioned were issues with technical features on infotainment systems and pairing Bluetooth with a mobile phone.

Specific models and manufacturers are ranked based on the number of problems reported per 100 cars, with the most reliable ranked at the top. Ultimately it’s Skoda cars that have been found to be most dependable manufacturer as 62 cars per 100 were reported to have a problem by their owners, less than any other brand.

Suzuki came second with 79 problems per 100 cars and Kia placed third with 80 issues per 100 cars. The industry average this year is 113 problems per 100 cars.

The top ten list of manufacturers in the survey also features Vauxhall in fourth and Peugeot in fifth. The rest of the top ten is completed in order by Volkswagen, Ford, SEAT, Toyota and Nissan.

Only 38 per cent of owners who experienced problems with their car said they would definitely buy from the same manufacturer again.

The most dependable cars each segment has also been revealed, with the Kia Picanto found to be the best city car. The Skoda Fabia topped the best small car category, while the Skoda Yeti was found to be the most dependable compact SUV.
