Skoda Unveils Updated Scala for 2024: A Closer Look at the Facelifted Model

Skoda has announced a refreshed version of its Scala hatchback for 2024, starting at £22,095. This update brings subtle styling tweaks and enhanced equipment levels to the Czech manufacturer's compact car offering. Available for order from October 2023, with deliveries expected in the first half of 2024, the facelifted Scala aims to maintain its competitive edge in the crowded family hatchback market.

Design and Specifications

The 2024 Scala receives a conservative update to its exterior. Visual modifications include a new radiator grille, redesigned front bumper with a diamond-pattern lower intake, and slimmer LED headlights. The rear sees the addition of new LED taillights, which include dynamic indicators on the higher-spec Monte Carlo trim, and a slightly modified Skoda badge. The facelift also introduces new alloy wheel designs, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the vehicle.

Inside, the Scala continues its commitment to sustainability, featuring materials such as natural hemp and kenaf plant fibers in the door panels and roof lining. Recycled plastics are used in the upholstery, carpets, and other interior components, aligning with broader environmental goals.

Trim Levels and Features

The Scala will be available in three trim levels: SE, SE L, and the sporty Monte Carlo. The entry-level SE trim includes standard features like 16-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and keyless go. It also comes equipped with an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8.25-inch infotainment system, alongside dual-zone climate control.

The mid-range SE L model, starting at £23,895, adds 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome window surrounds, rear privacy glass, a larger 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster, and an upgraded 9.2-inch infotainment system with ambient lighting.

At the top end, the Monte Carlo variant, priced from £27,795, includes 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a rear-view camera, and Matrix LED headlights with advanced features like adaptive high beam and cornering function. This trim also benefits from an upgraded suspension setup featuring lowered springs and adjustable dampers, providing a more dynamic driving experience.

Engine Options and Safety

Under the hood, the Scala offers three petrol engines. The range starts with a 94bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder engine paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. A more potent 114bhp version of this engine is available, which comes with a six-speed manual or an optional seven-speed DSG automatic. The top-spec engine is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit producing 148bhp, available with manual or automatic transmissions.

Safety has also been enhanced in the new Scala, with standard features such as front assist with pedestrian detection, lane assist, and traffic sign recognition. An optional safety package can increase the airbag count to nine, and the Crew Protect pre-crash system prepares the car in the event of an imminent collision by tightening seat belts and closing windows.

The 2024 Skoda Scala facelift subtly upgrades its design and enriches its feature set to stay relevant in its segment. With its range of efficient engines and a focus on sustainability and safety, the Scala remains a practical choice for families looking for a reliable and environmentally conscious vehicle.
