Why you need to consider the BMW iX

BMW’s flagship electric SUV is packed with features - but what else do you need to know about it?

BMW’s flagship iX is an SUV right at the cutting edge of electric car technology. It’s got a distinctive exterior look, an appealing cabin and loads of the very latest features, making it an exciting and interesting proposition for buyers who want a slice of the premium EV lifestyle.

But what does this car have to offer and why should it be on your list? Here, we’re going to take a look through some of the iX’s key features.

It’s got a great range and plenty of power

As is the case with all EVs, range is absolutely crucial to the iX. Needless to say, BMW has thrown some of the best battery tech possible at this car, ensuring that it can travel for a decent distance without needing to charge. So even entry point xDrive40 models can return up to 264 miles, while xDrive50 versions can achieve up to 391 miles from its huge 111.5kWh battery.

Plus, that range-topping model will achieve the 0-60mph sprint in just 4.4 seconds, though the xDrive40 still achieves it in a respectable 5.9 seconds.

The exterior design will get people talking

It’s fair to say that BMW’s latest designs have really stirred up some debate. The iX is arguably one of its most controversial to date, with its uber-large kidney grilles and slab sides giving this electric car a unique appearance.

But the process seems to be working, with people coming around to how these new cars look. Certainly, for those who like to make a statement, it’ll be a real draw for this car.

It’s still practical and spacious

The SUV fundamentals haven’t been forgotten about with the iX, however. That means it still offers plenty of interior space, with good levels of head and legroom for both forward and rearward passengers.

Plus, open the boot and you’ll find 500 litres of load area to play with. Fold those rear seats down and you can increase this up to a healthy 1,750 litres, too.

There’s the latest infotainment system inside

BMW has fitted the iX with its very latest infotainment system. There’s a new twin-screen setup with stretches across half of the dashboard, giving the car’s interior a truly space-age feel. BMW has also included its latest voice recognition software, meaning that entering commands via voice control is now even easier than before.

Plus, BMW’s popular rotary controller remains in the iX, allowing those who are familiar with BMWs to get up to speed quickly.

All cars get plenty of equipment

Prices for the iX start from around £72,000, pushing the car fully into premium territory. However, you do get plenty of standard equipment for that, with all cars getting four-zone climate control and a Harman/Kardon premium audio setup.

Of course, there’s you can add plenty of optional extras should you want to, with highlights including ventilated front seats and a panoramic sunroof.
