Hyundai's Getz supermini has had a major makeover comprising a progressive facelift and a range of new engines. The new look, European-styled Getz, which went on sale 1 October, benefits from significant revisions both inside and out.The clean looks of the previous model have been retained, while Hyundai's designers have attempted to bring the company's best selling model closer in line with European tastes and expectations through a series of styling changes.The front of the car has been updated with clear, wraparound headlamps and black bumper inserts. New wheel trims and alloy wheels emphasise the model's poise and balance. As before, top spec models add integrated front fog lights for added flair. #ad#New interior features include a dual tone improved texture fascia and redesigned instrument panel and centre console. For added comfort, the rear headrests in the five-seat supermini have also been redesigned for even better rearward vision.In terms of technical specifications, in addition to increased safety features the new Getz now offers new and improved engine options, all of which meet Euro IV emissions standards: a Revised 1.1 petrol SOHC 4-cylinder 12 valve, a New 1.4 petrol DOHC 4-cylinder 16 valve, the All new 1.5 diesel DOHC 4-cylinder 16 valve with choice of 88 PS or 110 PSA new 1.4 litre petrol engine, to replace the previous 1.3 unit, also marks a step forward in terms of technology, further improving environmental efficiency (all the new Getz engines comply with Euro IV regulations). The four valves per cylinder unit, complete with continuous variable valve timing (CVVT), delivers 97 PS (96bhp) and returns up to 47 mpg on the official Combined Cycle with five speed manual transmission.With the 1.4 litre engine customers can opt for an advanced four-speed automatic transmission that has been developed specifically for the new Getz. High top gear ratios reduce fuel consumption when cruising, while the intelligent transmission constantly monitors engine speeds and driver demands and adapts itself to suit individual driving styles.The new Getz is also still available with an entry level 1.1 litre 67 PS (66bhp) petrol unit, revised to meet Euro IV emissions standards. When powered by this four-cylinder DOHC unit mated to a five-speed manual transmission, the Getz is capable of covering more than 51 mpg on the Combined Cycle and will reach a top speed in excess of 90 mph.The Getz makeover does not stop with great new looks and dynamic new engines, there are new colours to choose from as well. For an additional £295 customers can choose one of three new paint finishes, metallic Sky Blue and Space Silver and Midnight Grey mica. Standard solid colour choices are Hip-Hop Red and Ebony Black.Designed with both driver and pedestrian protection in mind, Getz has integrated crumple zones within a basic rigid structure. More than 58 per cent of the total car's weight is high tensile steel.New Getz also benefits from strengthened dual height, high efficiency side impact bars. GSI models get driver and passenger airbags as standard, while CDX variants add front side airbags. All models have front seatbelt pretensioners.
