Lexus's SC 430 might never be considered lacking when it comes to style and equipment, but the svelte coupe-convertible benefits from a strategic series of revisions and enhancements brought in for the 2006 model year. The SC 430 is newly-equipped with an electronically controlled, six-speed automatic transmission, with optional override for manual sequential gear range selection for those seeking a more involving driving experience. The same unit as used in the Lexus LS and GS models, it adapts the shift pattern to suit individual driving style and road conditions. The precision and efficiency of the new gearbox delivers more rapid acceleration, while at the same time achieving lower fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. In combined cycle driving the SC 430 returns 24.8mpg, compared to 23.5 with the previous five-speed system, while CO2 ratings are reduced by 18g/km to 269g/km. Nought to 62mph is two tenths of a second swifter at 6.2 seconds.Night-time driving is made safer with the adoption of Lexus's Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), which adjusts the headlamp beam in line with vehicle speed and steering angle, to provide better forward illumination through bends. At the front the 2006 model can be identified by a new-look front grille, bumper, headlamps and indicators. The front fog lights have also been modified and at the rear, fast reacting LED lighting has been introduced.A new design for the 18-inch alloy wheels and the introduction of Cadoxton Slate (dark grey) and Corinthian Bronze metallic paint finishes add further style and customer choice. The Lexus SC 430, powered by a supremely smooth 282bhp 4.3-litre V8 engine, is priced on-the-road at £54,690.
