We say It’s one of the better value hot hatches out there. Looks great and has a capable engine. Handling and performance not as fiery as some key rivals. Performance The 1.4-litre MultiAir petrol engine delivers 165bhp and an impressive 250Nm of torque. Capable of 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 133mph. Six-speed gearbox and sport mode are good additions. Emissions 47.1mpg isn’t bad for a hot hatch, and the Abarth Evo’s CO2 emissions of 142g/km are relatively impressive. Driving The Abarth Punto Evo has slightly loose handling, but the Sport mode ensures it is more responsive. May feel a bit watered down compared to other hot hatches, but is comfortable and more than capable of providing a few thrills. Feel A good ride around town and on motorways despite being a little firm. Copes well with UK roads and is comfortable on most surfaces – meaning the Abarth Punto Evo will be better to live with than some hot hatches. Space Adults in the back seats may be a little cramped. The Abarth Punto is not built for lugging awkward shaped loads around, but what hot hatch is? Equipment The Abarth Punto Evo isn’t lacking in gadgets and gizmos. Air conditioning, adjustable steering wheel, electric windows and mirrors, Blue&Me hands-free kit and clever telemetry system. Price Abarth’s supermini is affordable and offers good value for hot hatch enthusiasts on a budget. Expect to pay around £17,000. Quality Very pleasing interior with a number of sporty touches. A big improvement on the Abarth Grande Punto. Safety ESP, ABS anti-lock brakes, Anti-Slip Regulation and Hydraulic Brake Assistance are all included as standard on the Abarth Punto Evo – as well as seven airbags including a drivers’ knee bag. Pros Performance and power are all present and correct. Sport mode helps to iron out any niggles and the Punto Evo looks sporty and sleek. It’s excellent value and is priced below most rivals. Cons Handling can be a bit loose and there isn’t much space in the back. Quite a firm ride, particularly for rear passengers. Alternatives RenaultSport Clio, Citroen DS3, Mini Cooper S
