We say Near-luxury saloon that is good for a Cadillac but it doesn’t hold its own against the Germans or Brits.Performance Entry level 3.6-litre V6 is the best option; with 315bhp, it’s no slouch, and it’s much more versatile and economical than the powerful-yet-pricey STS 4.6-litre V8.Emissions 258g/km and 26mpg combined is as good as it gets in the Cadillac STS – not good enough.Driving The STS isn’t as bad round corners as you’d expect and the suspension holds its own on European roads. It is big however, and is best placed in careful hands.Feel It’s comfortable but noisy. The engines really growl when pushed. The Caddy STS would make a good motorway cruiser.Space No issues regarding space here, the Cadillac STS is enormous and pushing towards luxury saloon territory.Equipment Electric heated seats, leather upholstery, reversing camera, satellite navigation and BOSE stereo system are on all STS models – impressively high kit levels for the money.Price Taking all things into account, the STS appears good value for money with lots of car and kit and big engines. However running costs are very high and residuals are weak.Quality Caddy’s STS feels solid, like it will stand the test of time. The interior isn’t very appealing however when compared to German and British cars at similar levels.Safety Stability control and six airbags are fitted on all STS models as standard.Pros Good standard kit, capacious, different.Cons High running costs, poor residuals, bland interior.Alternatives BMW 5 Series, BMW 7 Series, Jaguar XF, Jaguar XJ, Mercedes S-Class, Chrysler 300C
