We say Wonderful refinement and lovely to be in - until you start moving. The SC isn’t much fun and feels well off the pace.Performance The 282bhp 4.3-litre V8 is a real powerhouse through an auto box. Limited to 155mph and clears 62mph in 6.4 seconds. It’s the only engine available with the SC.Emissions 23mpg combined and 287g/km in terms of CO2 emissions mean the SC is fairly hopeless when it comes to running costs.Driving Very soft suspension ruins the SC’s handling characteristics – and means it’s not especially comfortable with the car rocking around on its chassis.Feel Lovely refinement and comfort when cruising, even with the SC’s roof down, though the road is always felt and heard.Space Rear space is minute; boot space is nonexistent with roof down, but merely cramped when up. All told the SC is not a practical car.Equipment Superb stereo system, luxurious trim, touch-screen satnav, climate control. The SC gets the works.Price The SC is very expensive to buy and run and residuals will be very poor. Superb levels of kit on the Lexus drop-top though.Quality The Lexus SC is reliable and well put-together inside; exterior looks are rather conservative however.Safety Four airbags, ABS, traction and stability control are standard on the SC.Pros Lots of great kit. Good engine.Cons Terrible handling. Too expensive for what it is.Alternatives BMW 6-Series Convertible, Jaguar XK Convertible, Maserati Spyder, Mercedes SL, Porsche 911
