It’s safe to say that the Ford Mustang Mach-E is one of the most eagerly-anticipated cars arriving in 2021.
It signals a huge change for this American manufacturer, and is the brand’s first bespoke EV – boasting a seriously impressive range of up to 379 miles. With its cool styling and stand-out interior that is a huge shift from the rest of the brand’s range, the Mach-E promises to deliver in a big way.
While already available to pre-order, this electric Mustang will soon be arriving in showrooms. Let’s take a look at what you need to know about it…
What powertrains are available?
From launch the Mustang Mach-E is already available with a good range of battery and electric motor options, with Ford offering a ‘Standard Range’, ‘Extended Range’ and also a flagship model that gets additional power.
The line-up begins with rear-wheel-drive ‘Standard Range’ models, which feature a 68kWh battery and an electric motor delivering 269bhp. Despite being the entry-level model, power is still brisk as it’s able to reach 60mph in under 6.7 seconds, while managing a claimed 273 miles on a single charge. If you fancy all-wheel-drive, it shaves half a second off the 0-60mph time, though knocks the range back to 248 miles.
If you’d like to go further on a charge, the Extended Range models can travel up to 379 miles thanks to their large 88kWh battery, while the power increases to 290bhp on the rear-wheel-drive version. If you choose all-wheel-drive here, the power boosts to 346bhp, though the range is reduced to a still-impressive 335 miles. Here, the Mach-E takes just 5.6 seconds to get from 0-60mph.
As for charging, standard range models are equipped with 115kW DC rapid charging, while the Extended Range takes this up to 150kW. Both models can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in as little as 45 minutes.
More powerful Mach-E models are also set to be on the way.
What trim levels are offered?
No ‘trim levels’ are available as such, but equipment changes depending on which powertrain you go for. Equipment highlights and prices are as follows.
RWD Standard Range – from £40,350
All Mach E models get loads of standard kit, including 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and a heated windscreen. You also get a huge 15.5-inch touchscreen and 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, which gets a new generation of software and connectivity functions. Elsewhere, you get adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, blind spot monitoring and dual zone climate control.
RWD Extended Range – from £49,980
Alongside the larger battery on the Extended Range, you also get a full panoramic sunroof, along with park assist, a 360-degree camera and B&O sound system.
AWD Standard Range – from £46,650
This model gets much the same spec as the ‘RWD’ car, but also brings 19-inch alloy wheels and electric front seats.
AWD Extended Range – from £57,030
This Extended Range model brings luxuries such as a glass roof, electric ‘hands free’ tailgate, a 360-degree parking camera and B&O sound system.
First Edition –from £58,080
If you get in early, you’ll be able to get a First Edition model, which comes painted in a choice of Grabber Blue, Carbonised Grey or Rapid Red.
What about personalisation?
Personalisation isn’t a priority on the Mustang Mach-E, though 10 colours are on offer, with special shades also being reserved for the ‘First Edition’.
A range of accessories are also available, such as dash cams, charging cables and also a tow bar – something quite unique with many EVs.
