Ford has a history of producing great performance cars, either based on consumer favourites or purpose-built models that have become icons.
The current range includes two of the best hot hatchbacks on sale, as well as one of the world’s most exclusive supercars. We take a look at them all…
Fiesta ST
After the roaring success of the previous generation, Ford could only improve the Fiesta ST when the new model came along. That is exactly what it did and helped make the model the best small hot hatch available. Fitted with the latest tech, the latest addition to the Ford Performance line-up can be fitted with a limited slip-differential for improved handling, launch control and an active valve exhaust – making it one of the most exciting cars of 2018.
Focus ST
Both this and the next model on the list are on their way out as Ford’s new Focus is coming later this year – but both are still available to buy at the moment. Here, the ST is the tamer of the two, but with it you still get an aggressive-looking machine that is fitted with a 247bhp 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine, sports suspension and torque vectoring control. It’s also available as an estate which adds extra practicality to the sporty package.
Focus RS
If you’re after a ferocious hot hatch, then it’s difficult to look past the Focus RS, which captured the minds of many a car fanatic when it was released in 2015. Expect the upcoming one to be even better, but this one is already amazing, thanks to its all-wheel drive with torque vectoring, race-inspired suspension and brilliant 2.3-litre EcoBoost/six-speed transmission combination. One of the best hot hatches ever?
Mustang
Following the reveal of the facelift earlier this year, the Mustang was enhanced so that a muscle car would make sense on the European market. With a retro-inspired design, this Mustang comes with the choice of sensible 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine or a roaring 5.0-litre V8, and comes as either a convertible or a coupe. Ford has also made it usable for the everyday drive as it comes with safety systems, a useful infotainment system and the option of a 10-speed automatic.
GT
The pinnacle of the Ford Performance range and a car that is steeped in history. Named after the famous Le Mans racer from the 1960s, this is the second road-going version following the original model from the mid-2000s. The latest version is a forward-looking supercar as it comes with a lightweight structure, a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre EcoBoost engine and active aerodynamics to make it fast everywhere. This 650bhp monster is the fastest Ford road vehicle and is arguably its most striking.
