Audi’s flagship is one of the most advanced limos on sale, thanks to its vast array of safety and infotainment systems to keep drivers and passengers content. To say the A8 is stacked with features is an understatement, as it comes with adaptive air suspension, a dual-touchscreen infotainment setup and adaptive cruise control, as well as Audi’s virtual cockpit instrument display, a head-up display and, for long-wheelbase models, a remote tablet to control the environment of the rear seats. Even the powertrain is high-tech, as all A8s come with a 48V electrical system for a mild-hybrid setup.
BMW 5 Series - £36,275
The executive saloon from BMW is another leader in making driving easier and safer with innovative features. Even in base spec models the 5 Series comes with quality kit, such as adaptive cruise control, the brand’s ConnectedDrive infotainment features and drive performance control – but it’s when you start adding equipment that the model becomes more interesting. You can get a display key, gesture controls for the infotainment system, Bluetooth with wireless charging and a head-up display, as well as adaptive LED lighting.
Hyundai Tucson - £21,845
The South Korean’s newest version of the mid-size SUV is fitted with a surprising amount of tech – considering the modest starting price. Although not all of these are available from the base S Connect level, Tucson models can be fitted with a digital instrument cluster, a wireless smartphone charging pad, blind spot detection and driver attention alert. All units, however, do come with brake assist and autonomous emergency braking, active bonnet system, lane keeping assist and trailer assist.
Mercedes A-Class - £22,850
In 2018, Mercedes pulled out all the stops to make the A-Class as advanced as possible without making the price too steep. In the standard SE spec, you get the MBUX infotainment system on a seven-inch touchscreen, active lane keeping assist and real-time updates on the sat-nav. To advance the A-Class even further, customers can choose to add one of the three technology packages, which add larger screens, augmented reality directions on the navigation and active parking assist – all in a premium compact.
Range Rover Velar - £44,735
The stylish Velar was introduced by Land Rover to be a chic option on the crowded SUV market, while the British brand also ensured it came with plenty of tech. The centrepiece is a dual-touchscreen setup to control the infotainment and comfort options, while the steering comes with touch-sensitive controls rather than conventional buttons – making it look quite futuristic. The interactive driver display is a great additional feature, while drivers with a smart watch can look at the vehicle’s status and locate their vehicle. There are many safety systems also on offer, such as emergency braking, lane keep assist and parking aids.
Volkswagen Up! - £9,605
Especially in the Up! Beats spec, the German city car is an impressive bit of kit. As it doesn’t really have the space in the dash for a full touchscreen display, Volkswagen added a cradle to mount your smartphone that could then be used as the infotainment, with it working alongside a five-inch media display and the Volkswagen Connect app. It also comes with a Beats sound system and the option to add cruise control and a rear-view camera.
Volvo V60 - £31,810
If safety tech is your priority, most Volvos will do the trick. But in the Swedish brand’s latest model, you will find a full complement of assistance systems. Just the standard safety kit includes pilot assist semi-autonomous driving, oncoming lane mitigation, city safety with steering support, lane keeping aid and driver alert control – and we’re barely scratching the surface. The nine-inch portrait Sensus system provides the driver with all the infotainment systems they’ll need, while parking cameras and sensors, a digital instrument screen and head-up display are all available as well – with many other options aside.
