Rolls-Royce has unveiled its luxury SUV, named after the largest clear-cut diamond every discovered.
The Cullinan is a “high-bodied vehicle” that sits on an all-new aluminium chassis. It’s fitted with a 6.75-litre V12 engine, which produces 563bhp and 850Nm of torque, all of which is connected to Rolls-Royce’s first modern all-wheel drive system that includes four-wheel steering.
The Cullinan is also the first Rolls-Royce to feature a hatchback-style tailgate and folding rear seats. However, the marque hasn’t designed the vehicle with transporting large objects in mind. Instead, it’s aimed at owners using the car for leisure activities, such as drone racing, fly fishing or base jumping.
In order to help with this, Rolls-Royce offers ‘Recreation Modules’, which are customisable drawers and shelves which can be designed to hold various items and types of equipment.
In order to get the best off-road performance with minimal effort, the Cullinan’s features an “Everywhere” button, which optimises the all-wheel drive system for the environment.
However, Rolls-Royce insists that the “Magic Carpet” level of ride comfort remains in place both on and off-road.
On the interior, the Cullinan has the first ever touchscreen infotainment system to come from Rolls-Royce. As well as leather seats and heating and ventilation controls for all passengers, the car also features night vision cameras, wildlife and pedestrian warnings, all-around cameras, active cruise control, a Wi-Fi hotspot and a huge head-up display.
