Vauxhall is a brand that is really expanding its line-up of electric and hybrid models.
Just a few years ago it didn’t offer a single electrified model, but today there’s a wide range of battery-powered cars and vans to choose from, with Vauxhall aiming to be fully-electric by 2028.
One of its latest EVs is the new Mokka-e, which sits alongside regular petrol and diesel versions of this new crossover, and one that’s set to make quite the difference to Vauxhall. Here’s what you need to know about it…
It offers a decent electric range
With Vauxhall a part of Stellantis, the firm is able to use the group’s wide arsenal of powertrains, including those for EVs.
So the Mokka-e’s setup is one that’s quite widely used in Peugeot and Citroen models too, and combines a 134bhp electric motor with a 50kWh battery. Vauxhall claims an electric range of 201 miles, and though some rivals might offer more, that should be more than enough for most drivers.
Should you need to charge on longer trips, its generous 100kW rapid charging capability means its battery can be topped up to 80 per cent in 30 minutes.
Looks the part
It’s safe to say that the last Mokka really wasn’t anything special to look at, but this new model is a really rather eye-catching choice.
This latest model’s look also previewed a new design language for Vauxhall, and one that’s already gone on to inspire the new Astra and new Grandland. With its smart new ‘Vizor’ front end, it offers a stylish, modern but minimalist design that really helps to set it apart from rivals. Higher-spec versions also feature large alloy wheels and a two-tone roof, which only adds to the style.
Premium interior
Vauxhall’s interiors in the past haven’t always been the best, but the Mokka is a huge step forward, and even moves this crossover into more premium territory.
A particular highlight is the ‘Pure Panel’ layout, which merges together a digital instrument cluster and touchscreen in a single display – a feature seen on some Mercedes models. The material and general fit-and-finish has also taken a big step up on the Mokka-e too.
Generous equipment
Vauxhall offers four trim levels on the Mokka-e – SE Premium, SRi Premium, Elite Premium and Ultimate. However, you also get a very generous amount of kit even on the entry-level model, including a seven-inch touchscreen, seven-inch digital dial display, adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera and electric climate control.
If you want something a bit sportier to look at, the SRi Premium gains 18-inch bi-colour alloy wheels, a black roof and red accents, along with features like heated front seats and a larger touchscreen and digital dial screen. Move up to Elite Premium for features like keyless entry and blind spot monitoring, while the flagship Ultimate gets you leather massaging seats and matrix LED headlights.
Vauxhall’s fantastic Plug & Go offer
It’s not just the car itself that will appeal, though, but also Vauxhall’s generous offers. That’s because the brand is currently offering an incentive known as ‘Plug & Go’ on all its hybrid and electric models.
With this, Vauxhall will give you a free home charging unit (worth £800 on its own) for easier charging, as well as free installation. On top of this you also get three years’ free servicing, roadside assistance for eight years and a six-month subscription to BP Pulse, one of the largest providers of public EV chargers. This offer really sets Vauxhall apart from its rivals.
