The model enters the Skoda SUV range as the smallest option, with the name originating from the Inuit culture

Skoda has taken the covers off the latest addition to its European SUV line-up – the Kamiq.

The ‘city SUV’ joins the larger Kodiaq and Karoq in the range and features the latest technology from the Czech brand, including new assistance systems and infotainment setups.

Built on Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform, the Kamiq comes exclusively with front-wheel drive and features new design elements, such as split LED headlights and daytime running lights, and scrolling indicators. It also comes with high ground clearance and C-shape rear lights.

Inside, the Kamiq features a 9.2-inch ‘floating’ touchscreen with a hand rest placed below, while the standard analogue instruments can be replaced by a 10.25-inch digital display that offers different views for the driver to choose from. The standard 6.5-inch touchscreen and an eight-inch infotainment display are also available in lower trims.

The rear load space measures 400 litres, although that can be extended by folding down the rear seats to reveal a 1,395-litre area.

Three engines are available from launch, with three petrol options and a diesel unit making up the selection. The base three-cylinder, 1.0-litre petrol is available in two states of tune – 93bhp and 113bhp – with the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine sitting at the top of the range developing 147bhp and is paired to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch ‘box.

The sole diesel is a 1.6-litre unit developing 113bhp and 250Nm of torque, with a six-speed manual paired to it as standard. Customers can choose the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission as well.

Skoda also offers the Kamiq with a sportier chassis, which drops the ride height by 10mm and is paired to Sport Chassis Control that allows the driver to choose between drive modes.
