MG is a brand that’s well on its way to becoming a key player on the UK car market.
Its range of value-packed models are exactly what many buyers are looking for, and its increasing range of electric and hybrid models are really appealing to consumers.
But it was the MG ZS EV that helped to kick off the brand’s electrified range, with this battery-powered crossover impressing with its affordable price, roomy interior and generous equipment levels. MG’s seven-year warranty is another big asset, too.
So if you’re considering a new MG ZS EV, here’s what you need to know.
What powertrains are available?
MG only offers a single powertrain on the ZS EV, but it’s a pretty good all-rounder.
With an electric motor producing 141bhp and 260Nm of torque, MG promises the ZS EV can go from 0-60mph in just 8.3 seconds, while reaching a top speed of 87mph.
It also features a 44.5kWh battery, which MG says delivers a combined electric range of 163 miles, though in the city a claimed 231 miles between charges is said to be possible in the most efficient driving.
In terms of charging times, when plugged in using a 7kW home or public charger, the battery can be topped up in 6.5 hours, while if you rapidly charge it using a 50kW unit, it takes as little as 40 minutes.
What trim levels are offered?
Just two trims are offered on the ZS EV – Excite and Exclusive. Equipment highlights and pricing are as follows.
Excite – from £26,095 (including plug-in car grant)
The ZS EV gets a long list of equipment included as standard, such as keyless entry and start, and an eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB radio, Bluetooth and satellite navigation. You also get 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, electric door mirrors, rear parking sensors, an electric parking brake and the impressive MG Pilot driver assistance pack, which includes features like adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and lane keep assist.
Exclusive – from £28,595 (including plug-in car grant)
Upgrade to the Exclusive and you get more attractive silver roof rails, along with a panoramic sunroof, reversing camera and automatic wipers. Electric folding mirrors are also included, along with heated and electric front seats and leather-style upholstery. Additional safety kit is provided with blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic assist.
What about personalisation?
Personalisation isn’t the ZS EV’s strongest point, though there are still ways to make your car stand out. In terms of colours, four are available – Arctic White, Black Pearl, Dynamic Red and Pimlico Blue, the latter being a particular highlight.
That said, there are a decent amount of accessories available, including protection packs for the interior and exterior of the car, while you can add carbon-effect and black detailing to the door mirrors, as well as additional red elements to the interior.
