Cupra Born prices and specs announced

Brand’s first EV will arrive in the UK at the start of 2022

Cupra has announced that its first electric car – the Born – is now available to order ahead of 2022 deliveries.

The brand’s new EV is based on – and shares similar styling with – the Volkswagen ID.3, though gets a sportier focus in-line with Cupra’s brand positioning.

First shown in July 2020, customers will finally be able to get behind the wheel of the Born at the start of next year. Initially launching with a single powertrain, which combines a 201bhp electric motor with a 58kWh battery, Cupra claims it can go from 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds, and manage up to 263 miles from a single charge. Thanks to 120kW rapid charging capability, it can recharged from five to 80 per cent in 35 minutes, or six hours and 15 minutes using a 11kW home charging point.

The range will then expand in 2022 to include a smaller 45kWh 148bhp version as a more affordable option, alongside a 77kWh 228bhp model that will unlock a greater electric range.

Prices start from £33,795 for the standard V1 model, which includes 18-inch alloy wheels, full LED headlights, a reversing camera and 12-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation and wireless smartphone mirroring.

Upgrading to the V2 brings larger 19-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, tinted rear windows and a fancy augmented reality head-up display. This is priced from £34,190.

At the top of the range the V3 brings cool 20-inch alloy wheels and electric ‘Granite Grey Dinamica’ bucket seats with a massaging function.

The Cupra Born is now available to order, with first deliveries expected in March 2022.
