Ford launches new protective shields for Transit models to aid social distancing

Available for both Transit and Tourneo models, the shields will be available on the majority of the firm’s commercial models

Ford is helping its customers adhere to social distancing in their vans and passenger vans with a new range of protective shields that aim to separate occupants from one another.

Designed to help operators maintain social distancing, the screens are aimed at those using their vehicles as school buses, patient transfers and taxis, and aim to supplement existing PPE worn by occupants in the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

Available as official Ford Accessories, the shields can be bought from both dealerships or via the Ford Online shop.

Ford says the shields have passed the firm’s ‘rigorous safety, quality and durability testing’, and are easily installable into its vans. While separating the driver from other occupants, they don’t restrict comfort or visibility.

Owen Gregory, Ford Europe commercial vehicle aftersales director, said: “Commercial vehicle operators have faced unprecedented challenges in 2020 and are adapting to new norms as they continue to provide their vital services to our communities and economy.

“Our new protection shields provide additional support to our customers as they continue to operate in challenging circumstances, offering drivers and passengers peace of mind as they work and travel.”

The screens are initially available on the best-selling Transit, Transit Custom and Tourneo Custom models. Shields will also follow later this year for the smaller Courier and Connect Transit models.
