Ford Mustang Mach-E GT: What you need to know

Ford Mustang Mach-E GT: What you need to know

Here’s what you need to know about the brand’s sporty EV

Ford launched its first bespoke EV earlier this year with the Mustang Mach-E, and it’s a model that quickly earned praise for the way it handled behind the wheel.

The firm is now aiming to build on that strength with a sporty new ‘GT’ model, which is the first road-going electrified performance model from the firm, and aims to take it further in rivalling Tesla.

Set to arrive in showrooms later this year, you can already order the Mustang Mach-E GT online. But if you want to delve a little deeper into it, this is what you need to know about it.

It’s Ford’s quickest performance five-seater EV

Ford is no stranger to the world of performance cars, but it’s quite telling that the Mustang Mach-E GT is the brand’s fastest accelerating five-seater model ever sold in Europe.

That’s thanks to the GT’s dual electric motors, which make 480bhp and 860Nm of torque, which Ford says allows for a 0-60mph time of just 3.7 seconds – a figure that would be capable of outclassing some supercars. At the same time you still get a practical interior that can seat five adults and with a roomy boot.

A range of sporty tweaks make it better to drive

There’s a lot more to the GT than just its outright performance though, with Ford making a range of tweaks to improve the way the Mach-E drives.

Fitted with a ‘MagneRide’ adaptive suspension setup that’s specifically been designed for European roads, Ford says it can ‘respond in real-time’ to changing road conditions. It also gets special Pirelli tyres that aim to reduce body roll, while large Brembo brakes are also fitted to provide greater stopping power.

The GT also gets a special ‘Untamed Plus’ driving mode that’s been configured specifically for track use and calibrates the powertrain for consistent power and torque delivery. It also reduces the assistance systems to limit interference and maximise the fun factor.

You still get a long range

Yet, despite the GT being tailored for performance, it still packs a long range at the same time. Though down on the standard Mustang Mach-E’s class-leading 379-mile range, Ford still promises it can manage 310 miles on a single charge thanks to its large 88kWh battery.

It’s also rather quick to charge up, too, as with a DC charging rate of up to 150kW, a 10-80 per cent charge can take as little as 45 minutes, with an average of 60 miles being added in just 10 minutes.

Revised styling to the standard Mustang Mach-E

To make sure the GT doesn’t go unnoticed next to the regular Mustang Mach-E, Ford has also made a range of changes.

Perhaps most prominent are the striking Grabber Blue and Cyber Orange body colours, while this sporty model also gets body-coloured wheel arches, a striking 3D-effect grille and a more aggressive-looking front bumper. Elsewhere, there are large 20-inch alloy wheels fitted, along with a black roof and red brake callipers.

You get loads of standard equipment

Perhaps not surprising given the GT sits at the top of the Mustang Mach-E line-up, standard equipment is particularly generous. Highlights include a 10-speaker B&O sound system, 15.5-inch touchscreen, an electric boot and particularly appealing Ford Performance sports seats.

A generous list of driver assistance features are also offered, including adaptive cruise control that can bring the car to a stop and set off again without the driver having to press any pedals, along with park assist and blind spot monitoring.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is available to order, with prices starting from £67,225.
