Ford reveals special edition GT Carbon Series

This is the lightest GT model yet, as Ford has replaced many elements with lighter alternatives, such as carbon fibre wheels and polycarbonate panels.

Ford has announced its third special edition of the current GT model – the Carbon Series.

This version of the supercar is the lightest yet, as Ford has dropped the kerb weight by 18kg from the standard model.

This has been achieved by fitting carbon fibre wheels with titanium wheel nuts, a titanium exhaust system and polycarbonate rear hatch – with additional venting also added.

There is also more carbon fibre on show than before and customers are able to select an optional accent colour to offset the dark look of the Carbon Edition – with silver, orange, red or blue the tones available.

Despite being a more track-focused option, the Carbon Series comes with air conditioning and the Sync 3 infotainment system – but it doesn’t feature any cupholders.

Ford Performance global director Hermann Salenbauch said: “The Ford GT Carbon Series will stand out on the road with its striking, carbon-fibre-rich design and on the track with its athleticism.

“It is yet another example of how we can bring to life our Le Mans-winning supercar in new and exciting ways so our customer can share in that magical legacy.”

Lance Mosley, Ford Performance marketing manager, added: “This is an example of how we listen to our customers. While the Ford GT Competition model appeals to hardcore racing enthusiasts, we found more customers asking for more exposed carbon fibre with the air conditioning and radio still intact. So we developed the Carbon Series to satisfy that need, while providing a distinct look.”

Only customers that are approved as part of the final owner application process – starting on November 8 – will be able to order the Carbon Series, with Ford able to build one of these special edition models every week.
