Is Black Friday a good time of year to buy a car?

We look at how the bargain day phenomenon has spread to the car world.

While you might think Black Friday is just something that’s celebrated on the high street or your favourite online retailers, the annual occasion is rapidly spreading into other sectors.

One of these is cars, which is why November 29 (Black Friday 2019) could be an ideal time to pick up your next new car.

Let’s take a look back at 2018 to see what it’s all about and what we can expect this year!

A vast number of manufacturers now take part – from more mainstream firms like Citroen through to premium brands like Jaguar, BMW and Land Rover. Hyundai, Peugeot and Mercedes all took part in 2018. This demonstrates that the day isn’t just isolated to individual firms, but that there is a number of brands.

So, in 2018 you could have saved more than £5,000 off a Range Rover Velar, you could have got free connectivity packages on your BMW, while other firms also offered reduced finance rates. This year’s deals are still yet to be announced, but it’s worth checking in early, as many firms have week-long events for Black Friday.

In short, if you’re looking for your next new car, Black Friday could be an ideal time to buy one.

But what are the potential downsides?

Well, everyone loves a bargain and to save money with no hassle, so in that respect there isn’t really any negatives to buying your new car on Black Friday. However, you should be aware of a couple of things…

Firstly, as not all manufacturers take part in Black Friday, you have to be aware that your perfect car might not be included in any deals. This means you could have to compromise on what your car you go for, or the spec – purely because the cars on offer are usually those that manufacturers are finding harder to sell.

You should also be aware that many manufacturers require a car to be registered by a certain date – meaning that you don’t always have the option to be picky about when your car is delivered and registered. Essentially, this just prevents you from waiting until March next year, for example, to get your new car on the new ’20’ registration.
