Jaguar I-Pace could be the safest electric car yet and here's why

The safety features are endless on the new upcoming I-Pace. With so much on offer, here's why the Jaguar I-Pace will be the safest EV around.

It’s safe to say that the Jaguar I-Pace is one of the most important vehicles currently on the road, as it is leading the way in terms of electric driving and technological advancement for everyday cars.

Not only is it one of the cleanest cars to drive, it’s also one of the safest as Jaguar has ensured that the I-Pace comes with a vast array of safety features to make drivers and passengers feel safe on the go.

We go through the major segments that the I-Pace’s safety features cover…

The rigid safety cell

First of all, the structure of the vehicle has to be safe, so Jaguar has built the rest of the I-Pace around an aluminium and steel safety cell that offers a stiff casing around the people inside and the high voltage batteries built into the chassis. That ensures in the event of an accident, it’s unlikely the batteries will give a fatal shock to those inside or anyone attempting to help out.

A sound system to warn of its presence

Due to the lack of a combustion engine under the bonnet, electric cars are very quiet. So to help people know when it’s coming, including those with visual impairments, Jaguar has fitted the I-Pace with a speed variable sound system, which emits a noise so that it can be heard at slower speeds. Working up to 12mph, the setup is required under EU legislation from July 2019, but Jaguar has got ahead of the game and added it already.

Great standard features

As with most cars costing in excess of £60,000, the I-Pace comes with a host of standard safety features, including emergency braking, cruise control with speed limiter, traffic sign recognition with an adaptive speed limiter, lane keep assist and a driver condition monitor – while a rear camera helps the driver out with seeing what’s going on behind during parking manoeuvres.

Excellent extras

Even though there is a high level of standard equipment in the I-Pace, customers can choose to add even more with up to three safety packs. The Park pack adds extra assists for getting in and out of spaces, such as park assist, 360-degree parking aid, rear traffic monitor and clear exit monitor.

The Drive pack includes adaptive cruise control with stop & go, high-speed emergency braking and blind spot assist – all of which help when cruising at higher speeds. The Driver Assist pack adds high-speed emergency braking, blind spot assist, 360-degree surround camera and adaptive cruise control with steering assist.
