Kia names prices for striking new Sportage crossover

Best-selling SUV enters its fifth generation

Kia has announced pricing for the stylish new Sportage crossover, which is available from £26,745.

The Sportage is Kia’s best-selling car, not just in the UK but also globally. Now for the fifth generation the South Korean firm has made a European-specific version for the first time.

Incorporating a bold new design that will influence future Kias, the front end gets a heavily revised version of the brand’s ‘tiger-nose’ grille, along with sharp boomerang-shaped daytime running lights. The smart rear end is also finished off with large LED lights and a two-tone tailgate design.

Meanwhile in the new Sportage’s cabin, there’s a smart new twin screen layout similar to that found on the Kia EV, which curves around the driver to give the interior a particularly modern look.

From launch in January the Sportage will have a 148bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine, along with a 1.6-litre diesel that’s available with 113bhp or 134bhp – the latter also featuring mild-hybrid technology. Kia also offers a 227bhp 1.6-litre petrol hybrid model, while a powerful 261bhp plug-in hybrid will join the range a few months after the rest of the line-up.

The new Sportage range starts from £26,745 for a ‘2’ model, with standard equipment including 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a reversing camera and an eight-inch touchscreen. GT-Line versions are up next, and add sportier styling, along with 19-inch alloy wheels, a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, keyless entry and suede leather upholstery. These are priced from £29,745.

Next up is the ‘3’ grade, which costs from £30,945, and brings a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, heated front and rear seats and adaptive cruise control. After this comes the ‘4’, which is available from £36,445 and adds a panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon sound system, 360-degree camera system, upgraded LED headlights and blind spot monitoring.

The flagship Sportage is the GT-Line S, which costs from £38,445, and adds luxuries like front ventilated leather seats, an electric boot and electric front seats.

The new Kia Sportage is available to order from December 15, with first deliveries expected at the start of next year.
