Mazda has unveiled the CX-60 as its new flagship SUV model, bringing additional luxury and electrification to the brand’s range.
Sitting above the CX-30 and CX-5 in Mazda’s SUV range, the CX-60 is part of the Japanese firm’s plan to head further upmarket with its ‘Large Product Group’, with this model being the first to come as part of that. Bringing a smart, extended design, despite the CX-60’s large size, it will remain as a five-seater.
Importantly the CX-60 promises to be fun to drive, with the model being both rear-wheel-drive and set to be offered with six-cylinder engines – emphasising the brand’s commitment to the combustion engine.
It will also be the brand’s first plug-in hybrid, with the pairing of a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a 100kW electric motor and 17.8kWh battery producing up to 323bhp, which Mazda says allows for a 0-60mph time of 5.6 seconds. It’s also the most powerful car to ever come from the Japanese car brand. An electric range of up to 39 miles is also promised which allows for up to 188mpg and 33g/km CO2 emissions.
In the future Mazda will introduce a 3.0-litre straight-six petrol, along with a 3.3-litre diesel, both of which will come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
The CX-60 will be offered in three trim levels in the UK – Exclusive-Line, Homura and Takuni – with prices starting from £43,950 and rising to £48,050.
Mazda’s new CX-60 is available to order now, with first deliveries promised in the early autumn. The Japanese firm has also confirmed the new seven-seat CX-80 SUV, which will sit at the top of the range when launched next year.
