2019 is expected to be an exciting year for new cars, as electrified powertrains become more prevalent in the current motoring climate.
Here is a list of the best new cars to look forward to this year.
Audi e-tron: Price: From £70,805 On sale: Early 2019
This is Audi’s answer to the Tesla Model X, developing 402bhp and offering a claimed range of 248 miles, as well as a 0-60mph time of under six seconds.
Audi Q4: Price: From 33,000 (est) On sale: Late 2019
The expanding Q range of Audi gets a new member, the Q4. Based on the Q3, the Q4 will rival the BMW X4 and Mercedes GLC Coupe. Expect an engine range of petrol and diesel units, as well as a 2.5 five-cylinder RS Q4 turbo.
BMW 1 Series: Price: From £23,000 (est) On sale: Late 2019
The next generation 1 Series is set to revolutionise the BMW platform, scrapping its traditional rear-wheel-drive layout for front-wheel-drive. The next generation could mean an increase in interior and boot space.
BMW 3 Series: Price: From £33,610 On sale: March 2019
The seventh-generation 3 Series will sit on BMW’s CLAR platform, enabling new powertrains to be fitted including a plug-in-hybrid. A PHEV will arrive next year, alongside a M3 in 2020.
BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe: Price: From £80,000 (est) On sale: Late 2019
The 8 Series Gran Coupe will be the largest BMW in the range. A longer wheelbase and an extra two doors over the standard Coupe. Its set to take on the likes of the Porsche Panamera and Mercedes CLS.
BMW Z4: Price: From £36,990 On sale: March 2019
Built in conjunction with Toyota, the new Z4 is said to be a proper sports car. Adaptive dampers, electronic differential as well as weighing 50kg less than its predecessor.
Ford Focus Active: Price: From £24,000 (est) On sale: January 2019
Ford has introduced a 4x4-inspired Focus Active. Just like the Fiesta Active, the car is taller with plastic body bumpers and wheel arch extensions to set off its SUV appeal.
Hyundai i30 Fastback N: Price: From £25,500 (est) On sale: February 2019
Fitted with the powerful 272bhp Performance engine, the i30 N Fastback has no direct rivals but Hyundai claims that the Fastback is a more elegant version of its already popular 5-door hatch.
Mazda 3: Price: From £19,000 (est) On sale: Early 2019
Revealed as the Mazda Kai concept, the new Mazda 3 is set to fight for the crown of the small family hatchback segment. The 3 will feature Mazda’s new SkyActiv-X petrol engine, with Mazda claiming diesel efficiency from a petrol unit.
Mercedes-Benz CLA: From £28,000 (est) On sale: Late 2019
The new CLA is slightly larger than the A-Class Saloon and looks like a mini CLS. Expect updated petrol and diesel engines, alongside a new CLA 35 and CLA 45 too.
Mercedes-AMG A 45: Price: From £45,000 (est) On sale: Mid-2019
The second generation AMG A 45 will be even faster than the outgoing model, according to AMG. Producing more than 400bhp, it will become the world’s most powerful hot hatchback.
Mini EV: Price: £25,000 (est) On sale: Late 2019
The Mini EV will be based mostly off the concept previewed back at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show. New battery technology will mean the Mini EV will have better range than its bigger brother the BMW i3.
Nissan Juke: Price: From £15,000 (est) On sale: Summer 2019
A new platform from the recently launched Micra will mean that a new hybrid powertrain is likely to be included. The looks will keep the current cars oddball design.
Range Rover Evoque: From £31,600 On sale: Now
Land Rover claim 90 per cent of the components in the new Evoque are new. Three petrol and three diesel engines will be available, with a three-cylinder petrol PHEV arriving in the next 12 months.
Renault Clio: Price: From £13,000 (est) On sale: Spring 2019
The next generation Clio will be revealed at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in March. Renault are claiming to have worked on upgrading the interior materials and design.
Skoda Scala: Price: From £16,500 On sale: Spring 2019
Replacing the ageing Rapid Spaceback the new Scala that has the Volkswagen Golf in its sights. Based on the same MQB platform, it will give class-leading interior and luggage space.
Skoda Vision X: From £14,000 (est) On sale: Summer 2019
First seen at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, the Vision X is expected to sit behind the Karoq in the range and is claiming to offer more practicality than the Volkswagen T-Roc.
Vauxhall Corsa: From £14,000 (est) On sale: Mid 2019
The next Corsa will be built on the same platform as the next Peugeot 208, with the new engines also being provided by the PSA Group. A pure-electric version will be on offer soon and with an increase in size, the Corsa will have a longer wheelbase, wider track and bigger boot.
Volkswagen Golf: From £18,000 (est) On sale: Summer 2019
The new Golf is said to be 70kg lighter than the outgoing model, with sleeker LED headlights and lower bonnet line, borrowed from models such as the Arteon and Touareg.
