New 2018 Ford Focus officially revealed

This latest edition of the family hatchback comes out in the 20th year of the model’s existence and comes with plenty of new tech features.

Ford has taken the covers off its latest version of the ever-popular Focus family hatchback range, which includes a high-end Vignale model and the first Focus Active crossover.

The large hatchback is fitted with some of the latest technology on offer from the Ford Co-Pilot360 line-up, such as active park assist, Ford’s first head-up display and adaptive cruise control with stop and go, speed sign recognition and lane-centering.

It also has an all-new look that mirrors the brand’s most recent models, with the grille similar to the one found on the Fiesta and the body including sharper creases – while the interior in top-end models also incorporates a floating eight-inch touchscreen with the Sync3 infotainment system.

Under the bonnet, customers can choose from two engines – one petrol, one diesel – with five states of tune between them – with the latest version of the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol bookending the power range with 83bhp the least potent option and 123bhp the most.

Ford is also introducing an eight-speed automatic for the top-end 118bhp EcoBlue diesel, which comes with rotary gear shift dial set on the central console.

From the base Style specification, the Focus comes with 16-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping aid, air conditioning, a 4.2-inch display with DAB radio, Bluetooth and six-speaker audio system, electric windows and auto headlamps.

The standard Focus hatchback and estate will be available in seven trim levels, including Ford’s top end Vignale trim – which adds a premium flavour to the consumer model.

Like the Fiesta, the Focus will come with an Active crossover body option, although that will be on offer at a later date.

“The chance to build a completely new car from a fresh piece of paper does not come around often. We grabbed it with both hands, to develop the best mid-size family car that money can buy.”

Prices for the new Focus start from £17,930, with the model on sale now, and deliveries beginning in September.
