New limited-edition Mazda2 revealed alongside 2018 updates

Mazda2 Sport Black joins supermini range, alongside a host of updates for the hatchback

A new limited-edition Mazda2 is joining the supermini’s line-up, alongside a host of updates for 2018.

The Mazda2 Sport Black is the latest special edition from the Japanese manufacturer and will sit in the middle of the entry-level hatchback’s range — and only 500 units will be made.

What makes it different? Well, the Sport Black gains ‘Brilliant Black’ bodywork details, such as the rear roof spoiler, side skirt trims, mirror caps, front grille and roof-mounted antenna. Completing the package are 16-inch black alloy wheels and rear privacy glass.

There’s also a choice of three premium paint finishes for no extra cost — namely Dynamic Blue Mica, Deep Crimson Mica and Machine Grey Metallic.

The Sport Black is based on the existing Mazda2 SE-L Nav+, which means automatic headlights and wipers, LED fog lights, rear parking sensors and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment display are all included as standard equipment.

Under the bonnet of the Mazda2 Sport Black is a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. It produces 89bhp and 148Nm of torque, capable of taking the hatchback from 0-60mph in 9.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 114mph.

Across the rest of the Mazda2 range, there are four new colours to choose from — Ceramic Metallic, Sonic Silver Metallic, Soul Red Crystal and the aforementioned Machine Grey Metallic — alongside new seat fabrics, an updated steering wheel and more sound insulation in the cabin.

The Mazda2 Sport Black is now on sale with prices starting at £15,995 — although you’ll need to act fast to get your hands on this limited-run supermini.
